WELCOME TO PRO-SPIN BOOKSTitle:Airports and PilotsAuthor: W.T.WPublisher:Airleaf Publishing; 2nd edition Year: 2005 Pages: 127 Cover: SOFTSize: 9" X 6"ISBN #1594537992 The author’s intent is not to teach flying in this book, although there are many lessons to learn in it, but to honor many of the pilots he flew with and to keep alive the flying spirit in our great country that is being so sorely tested today. At one time I taught an instrument ground school in PHN. I started each of my ground schools with the following statement. “If you fly instruments in this area, sooner or later you will have icing conditions. If you get ice on a light aircraft you go to a big airport and drive it on the runway.” Over a period of years I had two pilots that attended my ground school, went to small airports and totaled their aircraft. This is why at the start of this book I am again making the above statement. I hope none of you repeat their performance. The sky above, the ground below and a beauty in my hands, the beauty of course is the aircraft of our choice.About the AuthorThe author is a 25,000 hour to 30,000 hour pilot (quit logging at 18,000 hours) except for currency checks. All of his flights were in light aircraft (under 12,500 lbs). A lot of pilots reach this many hours in heavy aircraft, not many do it in light aircraft. Born and raised in Port Huron, Michigan, flying most of his first flights in the Michigan area. He learned to fly on the GI Bill after being in a parachute regiment in World War II. The author was based or flew for companies that were based at the following airports; BEH, ALMA, ISM, AZO, OMA, LUK, PHN, ORL, DET, Louisville, GA. Some of these airports he went through there more than once. ISM, Kissimmee, Florida, he went through four times. There were many changes at ISM from the first time he worked there to the last time. The first time he landed in a Stinson Voyager at ISM, he had to run the cows off the runway in 1947. Although a Cessna dealer at PHN, two of his favorite aircraft are the Cessna Citation and the Turbo Commander. Mr. Webb hopes you enjoy this book.
